OCSR Steam Train

For the past ten years an historic Heisler type steam locomotive has pulled tourist trains along the coast between Garibaldi and Rockaway and sometimes as far north as Wheeler. Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad (OCSR) operates these trains. Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad is a non-profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to the preservation of historic railroad and logging equipment and educating all ages. From Memorial Day Weekend through the end of September, OCSR operates excursions behind historic steam locomotives between Garibaldi and Rockaway and dinner trains year round as far as Wheeler.

For over 100 years trains have brought goods into Tillamook and shipped them out to our friends and neighbors across the nation. For 40 of those years the railroad transported tourists and helped to transform Rockaway Beach from a marshy wilderness backwater into the tourist mecca that it is today. OCSR continues this tradition today, operating over the historic tracks laid down by the Pacific Railroad and Navigation Company over 100 years ago and attracting people from throughout the nation for the historic experience of riding a train at the beach.

OCSR is an example of living history. Throughout the summer and on some winter excursions, OCSR utilizes historic steam locomotives and antique railroad equipment to transport its guests to another era, the Golden Age of Rail Travel. Not only is the motive power unique in that it is steam powered, but OCSR specializes in the care and restoration of logging locomotives, types just like those utilized to haul logs down the tortuous grades of the coast range to the prosperous mills of Tillamook County in the 1920’s and 30’s.

The majority of restoration projects and maintenance work is performed by volunteers. OCSR gains more each and every year. For more information please click here.
