Attention visitors, partners, and friends:
Please note the new website domain is https://visitgaribaldi.gov.
For those who have links to our website, please replace the .com with .org. The links will then go to the proper locations.
What happened to the .com?
We lost access to the .com domain. The content on the .org is ours. The .com site content has been hijacked and will be removed.
- Please do NOT look at the .com website; visit ONLY the .org.
- There appears to be malware injected into the .COM website.
There was no known documentation in house for the .com domain. None of the present or past staff – including members on the redesign project in 2016 – recall the login for the domain. Despite efforts to contact domain providers, none could tell us who owned the old link.
We will still work to claim the domain, but only to redirect it to the .org and, eventually, the (pending) .gov website. We will also pursue shutting the fraudulent website down.
Going Forward
The current city staff –most of whom were hired since the summer of 2021 — along with the auditor and volunteers with accounting & auditing experience, are prioritizing the city’s financial health. In short, they’re repairing past accounting errors while also conducting this year’s in parallel. Unfortunately, this takes priority over the web domain issue. Because of the allocation, Planning Commission Chair Finn Findling & City Councilor Katie Findling (both are career digital marketers) volunteered to help with the domain issue, working in concert with Oregon Coast Creative.
Mayor Tim Hall has asked Chair Finn to develop a presentation on the situation, and the safeguards that make sure this never recurs. The presentation is scheduled for the February 2022 Regular City Council Meeting. Interested parties are invited to attend or watch on Zoom. Links will be provided on the city website.
